Stillness

It is very important to realize that the stillness needed to know God is primarily a stilling of our efforts to know God.  Deep contemplation is deepening trust and faith that we don’t have to go anywhere to find God; we just simply recognize the gift of God’s love, Presence, and Being.  The radical nature of receiving stills and quiets our efforts to find God; rather than through our actions, we come to find God in our unmoving, motionless, unknowing faith.—David Frenette

This is a wonderful teaching from David Frenette, a student of Thomas Keating and a spiritual master himself.  How much do we try to get God when all that is needed is the stilling of our efforts so we can relax into God?
